A mother-daughter duo made preserving the historic details of Richmond Heights their mission for Miami’s Richmond Heights. Author, Patricia Harper Garrett is serving her 2nd term as the Florida Democratic Committeewoman for Precinct 802 and has had her roots in Richmond Heights since 1956 while an Elementary school student. As a fourth-generation school educator, she retired from Miami-Dade County public schools after 35 years of service.
She is a Life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and Bethune Cookman University National Alumni Association. She is an ESAC Committee member for Richmond Middle School. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Second Baptist Church for the Community Development Corporation of Richmond Heights and was a Member of Jack & Jill of America. In her spare time she sings and travels. She married Willie Garrett, Jr. and they have two daughters Jessica Garrett Modkins and April Garrett. They have three grandchildren Jaden Gilliam, Dallas Modkins, and Harper Modkins.
Born and raised in Richmond Heights, fellow author, Jessica Garrett Modkins’ career has evolved into that of a modern-day renaissance woman. Her mastery of several disciplines has lead to successful careers as an Executive in the following professions: broadcast news, consumer marketing, and the music industry. She has also written the books; 31 days of prayer for baby, and 31 days of prayer for women.
She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and Women In Entertainment Empowerment Network. She has been recognized for her leadership by the Grammy Awards, the Miami Black Archives, and Miami Dade County Public Schools.
